Management jobs, Do you want to be a manager?

Are you wondering if a management jobs path is right for your career? We’ll try to help you decide whether or not management job is for you.
The good side of being a manager is obvious, you’re generally paid more than others, and if you manage to reach top manager in a company you’ll be paid more than anyone else in the company… that’s it? No, a manager also has some power, like setting work schedules for the group. But the true power comes from your ability to lead your group and of course from the people in your group itself.

One of the multiple advantages of being manager is your prestigious titles, just because something like Senior President worldwide marketing sounds more impressive than marketing specialist. However the Senior president may work for a 10 person company and make 60k per year while the specialist works for a major prestigious company, and makes over 150k per year.

The dark side of being a manager… it’s very simple, NOBODY likes you … who likes the boss? A manager needs to be a little removed from the employees in order to objectively make the decisions. And by the way, your goals are usually more long-term, quarterly or annual.

Your job is to make the decision, right or wrong and of course the responsibility rests with the manager. Of course a lot of people may not agree with the decisions you made or felt they could have made better decisions.
And don’t forget, there is always someone after your job. The higher you go in any companies, the fewer positions there are at that level and the more competition there is for them.
Management as career path is not for everyone, if power, money and prestige are important to you, you may want to consider a management job but you HAVE to like responsibility.
